Bold move for future leaders: a chance to shape how global conversations happen—and it might just change your career trajectory. The Doha Debates Ambassador Program has opened applications for its 2026 cohort, inviting bright young minds from around the world to join a selective group focused on improving dialogue, systems thinking, and consensus-building.
What the program offers
The Ambassador Program is Doha Debates’ flagship initiative, aimed at cultivating a generation of leaders who can drive meaningful dialogue on complex global issues. Participants should be 18–26 and demonstrate curiosity, courage, and a commitment to engaging diverse perspectives. The Majlis-style approach—prioritizing openness, listening, and collaborative problem-solving—helps bridge divides and foster inclusive solutions.
You’ll work closely with two expert guides: Dr. Brandon Ferderer, who specializes in facilitation and intercultural communication, and Jennifer Geist, a systems-thinking expert. Together, they guide you through processes that reveal interconnections, challenge assumptions, and illuminate the deeper dynamics behind global challenges.
Why this program exists—and why it matters
Doha Debates created the Ambassador Program to empower youth to rethink conventional discourse, collaborate courageously, and push back against polarized conversations that stall action. It provides a rare “brave space” where young leaders can practice new communication and community-building skills, wrestle with hard questions, and cultivate the ability to build consensus across ideological, cultural, and political divides.
What participants gain
Over the course, you’ll join weekly sessions, collaborate in small groups, and reflect on your learning. This equips you to:
- Facilitate and participate in nuanced discussions on global issues
- Navigate intercultural communication with empathy and clarity
- Explain your own worldview while appreciating others’ perspectives
- Use storytelling to inspire and mobilize communities
- Develop deep personal connections to global issues and analyze root causes
- Build lasting relationships with a diverse, international cohort
- Interact with Doha Debates staff and access future opportunities
- Learn to organize inclusive community dialogue events in your own locality
These skills position ambassadors for leadership in civic engagement, international relations, community organizing, policy work, and social innovation.
Program structure and time commitment
The program has two linked phases:
Phase 1 — Community of Practice (January 20–February 10, 2026): A four-week CoP focused on Majlis-style debate, communication, and consensus-building. Activities include four weekly Zoom sessions (Tuesdays, 7:00–8:30 p.m. Doha time), weekly discussion forums on the Participate platform, and ongoing email/WhatsApp communication. Time commitment: about 3–4 hours per week. Completing this phase earns a Doha Debates CoP credential.
Phase 2 — Ambassador Program (February 17–April 7, 2026): An eight-week applied learning track for those who finish the CoP. Activities include eight weekly Zoom sessions, ongoing Participate platform discussions, and continuous collaboration. Time commitment: roughly 4–5 hours per week. A formal certificate is awarded at the end, along with access to expanded opportunities with Doha Debates.
