A Tribute to a Cycling Legend
The Mark Gunter Photography Awards (MGPAs) are a heartfelt tribute to Mark Gunter, an Australian cycling photographer who sadly passed away in 2015. Mark's legacy lives on through these awards, which honor his life and his significant impact on the cycling community. With his wife Leeanne by his side, we're proud to continue this tradition and keep Mark's memory alive.
A Decade of Cycling Photography Excellence
As we approach the end of 2025, it's time for the 10th edition of the MGPAs! Held annually in December and January, these awards have become a beloved tradition for cycling enthusiasts and photographers alike. Each year, we're blown away by the thousands of submissions from professionals and amateurs, and this year promises to be no different.
Categories and Prizes: Something for Everyone
This year, we've got three main categories: Professional, Amateur, and Smartphone. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, there's a place for you in the MGPAs. And if you're an Escape member, you could win some amazing additional prizes from POC!
The Professional and Amateur categories will be judged by a panel of renowned photographers, including Léon van Bon, Michael Blann, and Twila Federica. In the Professional category, the winners will receive prestigious medallions and the perpetual Mark Gunter Photographer of the Year Award trophy. The Amateur category offers fantastic prizes from Ritchey, Albion, and Feedback Sports.
But here's where it gets controversial... we're also inviting the public to vote for their favorite photos! The most popular photos across all categories (the Fan Favorites) will win cash prizes. So, not only do you get to showcase your talent, but you also get to support a wonderful cause.
Supporting a Worthy Cause
All entry fees for the MGPAs will be donated to cancer research through the Australian charity Tour de Cure. This is a chance for us to give back and honor Mark's memory by supporting a cause close to his heart. Your participation and donations will make a real difference in the fight against cancer.
How to Enter and When to Expect Results
Entries for the 2025 MGPAs are now open! The deadline is 11 pm on January 4, 2026 (AEDT). Throughout this period, we'll be showcasing the incredible photos submitted on Escape and Instagram, using the hashtag #markgunterphotoawards2025. The winners will be announced on January 21, 2026, so mark your calendars!
