The Myton Hospices has claimed the Innovator in Care Award at the 2025 Hospice UK Awards, marking a notable national recognition for their pioneering efforts. Hospice UK’s awards showcase cutting-edge developments in hospices and palliative care across the country, with this year receiving more than 150 submissions spanning eight categories—the strongest pool in the event’s history.
The Innovator in Care Award honors people and organizations that enhance care experiences through creativity, collaboration, and forward-thinking strategies. Myton earned the honor for its GP Information Clinics, which have redefined how patients with life-limiting illnesses, along with their families and carers, access guidance and information.
The clinics were created in collaboration with local Primary Care Networks and place hospice expertise directly inside general practice settings. This means patients can receive timely, personalized support in a trusted, familiar environment. By initiating hospice involvement earlier in the care journey, the clinics help individuals make well-informed choices and improve their overall care experience.
The award was presented during Hospice UK’s national conference in Liverpool and was accepted by Registered Nurse Olivia Bowskill, Community Engagement Manager at The Myton Hospices, who leads the project. Olivia shared:
“Seeing this award is a moment of real pride, underscoring the importance of reaching people sooner in their illness. Many patients I meet in these clinics discover support services they hadn’t known existed. Providing access at a critical time—when emotions run high and uncertainty can be overwhelming—helps ensure patients and families have the information and reassurance they need.”
Judges for the Hospice UK Innovator in Care Award noted:
“The Myton Hospices demonstrate how innovation, strong partnerships, and active community engagement can improve patient outcomes. Their work has measurable impact and is driving national improvements in early access to palliative care, while inspiring other hospices to explore community-based models.”
Ruth Freeman, CEO of The Myton Hospices, commented:
“This accolade reflects our dedication to early intervention and to supporting people and their families at every step of the journey. The GP Information Clinics exemplify how clever collaboration can turn that commitment into a reality. We’re grateful for Hospice UK’s recognition and deeply appreciate Olivia’s leadership, as well as the GPs, healthcare professionals, and Primary Care Networks who have helped bring this vision to life.”
Looking ahead, The Myton Hospices plans to roll out the GP Information Clinics across Coventry and Warwickshire, broadening access to specialist support at earlier stages. The broader aim is to embed this model as a sustainable, community-based approach to palliative care, offering a replicable blueprint for hospices nationwide.

The Myton Hospices operate on the belief that every moment matters and strive to enrich life when curing isn’t possible. Their work extends beyond end-of-life care, supporting patients and their loved ones from the moment of diagnosis.
With three hospices located in Coventry, Rugby, and Warwick, they care for adults 18+ facing a range of life-limiting illnesses, including respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological conditions, cancer, and organ failure.
Recently, demand for Inpatient Units has risen by 11% over the past year, leading to more people waiting for this essential service. As the sole provider of Hospice Inpatient Beds in Coventry and Warwickshire, Myton recognizes the growing need for capacity, but funding constraints limit how much they can expand.
As a charity rather than an NHS service, Myton must raise roughly £12.7 million of the annual £15.3 million required to keep services free for patients and families. NHS funding accounts for only about 17%, with the remainder needing community donations and support.
